Recognized as an innovative and creative engineer throughout the Midwest, his designs for buildings and systems are proven to be safe, energy-efficient and cost-effective. Tom is a nationally sought-after speaker and frequent ASHRAE author who promotes energy-smart HVAC systems. He has been an advisor to the U.S. Department of Energy on HVAC best practices. He designed the first “Energy Star” school in the Midwest. In 1998, Tom presented one of his innovative systems to the United States Congress. He has either invented or pioneered the implementation of eleven distinct HVAC innovations, all of which save energy and reduce pollution. His work has been featured on the ABC Evening News and USA Today.

Principle building types are commercial and institutional, specifically colleges, universities, libraries and K-12 schools. Tom has designed more than 300 school HVAC systems.

Tom oversees all aspects of the DVPE mechanical design to tailor solutions to best meet the client’s needs.
