IPS 87

Awarded Projects - IPS #87

DVPE’s HVAC design for this 70 year old elementary school won the 2009 ASHRAE Technology Award in the Existing Institutional Buildings Category. Since it was built in 1935, ground water leakage into the basement had been a significant operational problem. Durkin used the ground water as a geo heat-source/heat-sink, to deliver the most efficient school in Indianapolis. This is a geothermal central system, not a decentralized heat pump design. Of the many benefits of central vs. decentralized systems is the ‘sensible cooling’ option that allows geo water to be circulated directly through the building for cooling with no compressors running.
